Lea Wood Paintings

Lea Wood Paintings

August 1–September 30th

Originally from Durban, a busy port on the Indian Ocean on the eastern coast of South Africa, Lea was introduced to paint and clay by her mother’s friend who was an art teacher and successful sculptor. She was fascinated by women sitting in groups, laughing and singing in the shade of ancient trees while beading intricate patterns, with no references for design in view… each person having their own concept in mind. She later studied fashion design in Johannesburg, reinforcing her love for textiles, style, and color. She left South Africa in her 20s and moved to London, then Toronto, ultimately settling in San Rafael. There she opened a studio called “Expecting to Fly”

After roughly 30+ years of working with clay, she switched mediums and started painting in acrylics.
